John S. Banks - Principal Artist at Artek Images

John has been working with computer graphics since 1979.

He is currently the Artist in Residence at the Columbia College Television Department as well as working with Artek Images.

His undergraduate work focused on non-silver photography with Todd Walker at the University of Arizona.

Graduate work was at the Art Institute of Chicago where he received the Andrew Mellon Fellowship for work in the Center for Advanced Studies in Art & technology, 1985.

John has been included in the SIGGRAPH International Art Exhibits ten times including the 1997 show which selected 12 artists who had proven an ongoing commitment to the use of technology to realize their visions.

Work has also been included in the Venice Bienalle, the Chicago International Art Expo and various shows throughout the USA and Europe. John is currently featured in the show Electronic Fields at the Illinois State Gallery, Chicago, IL.

For 12 years he was a principal at the computer graphics firm Rising Star Graphics, which he also co-founded.

John’s animations have been shown at the SIGGRAPH national animation festival, the Damah Spiritual Film Festival, Tech TV & several television programs throughout the USA.

He now splits his time between printmaking and animation work. Look for a forthcoming DVD release of animation material featuring the music of composer Fritz Heede.
